- Arizona Headlines Highly-Anticipated Event with Marquee Matchup Against San Diego State -

PHOENIX  Position Sports, in partnership with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, announced the matchups for the 2025 Hall of Fame Series Phoenix on Saturday, December 20, at PHX Arena.

Arizona vs. San Diego State

Colorado vs. Stanford

This event builds upon the success of the past Hall of Fame Series matchups in the Valley, which have generated significant local excitement. Last year, Arizona State and Grand Canyon’s men’s and women’s teams squared off in front of a spirited, split crowd at PHX Arena. The inaugural event in 2023 featured eight teams, including both Arizona and ASU programs, as well as then-third-ranked Alabama, which went on to reach the Final Four at State Farm Stadium.

"We're excited to bring the Hall of Fame Series back to Phoenix with an outstanding doubleheader this December,” said Melissa Meacham-Grossman, President of Position Sports. “Arizona vs. San Diego State promises to be a high-caliber matchup between two premier programs with passionate fan bases, while Colorado and Stanford will bring their former Pac-12 rivalry to PHX Arena. This event continues our tradition of showcasing elite college basketball in the Valley, giving Phoenix fans the opportunity to experience high-level competition in a world-class venue right before the holiday season."

Quotes from Head Coaches:

“We are looking forward to playing San Diego State in Phoenix this season as part of the Hall of Fame Series. It is another opportunity for us to play against a great program in a tremendous atmosphere that our program and fans enjoy. Reaching our fans in Phoenix is a priority for us and games like this provide a great avenue to do that.”

Tommy Lloyd | Arizona

“Any time we are able to schedule a game against a team with the pedigree of Arizona and participate in a Naismith Hall of Fame event, it is a win-win for San Diego State. We are looking forward to the challenge in Phoenix and know our fans will be in the stands supporting the Aztecs.”

Colorado vs. Stanford Series History

The former conference rivals last met on March 3, 2024, in Boulder, where the Buffaloes earned an 81-71 victory. Stanford's most recent win came on March 1, 2020, in Palo Alto. Quotes from Head Coaches:

“We are looking forward to participating in the Phoenix Hall of Fame Series and facing a quality opponent in Stanford. Playing Stanford in late December will help us prepare for our Big 12 Conference schedule. Our staff is familiar with Coach Smith and the fantastic job he did at Washington State while we were in the Pac-12, and we know he has Stanford trending in an upward direction. It will be a great test for both programs.”

Tad Boyle | Colorado

“We are thrilled to be part of the Hall of Fame Series Phoenix. Colorado has been one of the best programs in the West over the last decade. They have had great postseason success and have produced several NBA draft picks, and they are a familiar foe from the Pac-12. They are led by a distinguished and honored coach who does things the right way in Tad Boyle, and we are excited to face them in Phoenix.”

Kyle Smith | Stanford
