Grant Hill to Join Celebration of Local High School Students as part of Enshrinement Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is teaming up once again with the Beta Sigma Boulé chapter of the Sigma Pi Phi fraternity and Springfield College to present the third annual Education and Leadership Luncheon to inspire and celebrate Springfield area students. The press conference announcing the second annual collaboration will be held at Springfield College on July 24th.

Now in its third year, this year’s luncheon will be held on September 7, 2018 at Springfield College from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will feature 2018 Hall of Fame Class member Grant Hill. Mr. Hill will offer remarks on his life and success both on the court and off.

The students will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with representatives of the college, of Beta Sigma Boulé, and Hall of Fame members attending the Luncheon who will share encouragement and inspiration with local youth in a small group environment.

Past Events have featured Basketball Hall of Fame inductees, Shaquille O’Neal, Rebecca Lobo, Mannie Jackson and other Hall of Famers and has become a highlight in community relations outreach surrounding Enshrinement Weekend.

The event is open to the public.  Tickets are $75. Those who wish to purchase tickets should visit TICKETS.BETASIGMABOULE.ORG for more information.  Sponsorships are also available to assist with the Beta Sigma Boule’ student scholarship and outreach programs.

The Educational and Leadership Luncheon continues the ongoing relationship between Beta Sigma Boule, Springfield College and the Hall of Fame which began through outreach discussions between John Doleva, Hall of Fame President & CEO and H. Brooks Fitch of Beta Sigma Boule with the intent to inspire and reward the perseverance and excellence of area youth through one of Springfield’s greatest contributions to the world - the game of Basketball.

“We were so pleased with our past events and the support shown by the Western Mass. community,” said Fitch. “We hope to build on this momentum with the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, as we continue to celebrate the excellence of our local youth.”

“It’s the triangle,” said Doleva, referencing Springfield College’s mission to educate students in “spirit, mind and body.”  He added, “we are very pleased to continue this important outreach Event under the direction of the Beta Sigma Boule’ Committee members, our long-time partners at Springfield College and Paul Lambert, our Vice President of Enshrinement Services & Community Engagement who will lead a series of wonderful events throughout Springfield during Enshrinement 2018”.

Over 75 area students will be in attendance. The criteria to be selected was based not only on grade point average, but on grit, perseverance and character. The students were chosen to participate in the Luncheon by their respective school officials.
