The highly anticipated MVP’s of Character Program shows youth how to develop strong character traits, make mature decisions, and achieve lasting academic success

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The MVP’s of Character is a series of speaking events held at the Basketball Hall of Fame during the school year that offers educators and students an opportunity to engage in healthy character development based in the “Most Valuable Pillars” of Character. The program runs once a month from October 2014 through May 2015. Prominent athletes as well as community leaders will serve as program hosts as they speak to students about their experiences as they relate to the development of becoming productive and responsible citizens.

“The Basketball Hall of Fame is beyond excited to be partnering with Westfield Bank on this extraordinary initiative,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “The Character Program is a great way to offer students and educators an opportunity to connect both education and sports, while also learning and implementing the six pillars of character.”

The MVP's of Character program is supplemented by an additional set of learning objectives and lesson plans as part of an educational field trip to the Basketball Hall of Fame.  This curriculum will be available electronically to any educator who signs their group up to participate in any one of our speaking sessions.

Westfield Bank President and CEO James Hagan is excited about the partnership and opportunity to invest into Springfield youth. “This initiative fits perfectly with our commitment to the youth in our communities. As a strong supporter and advocate of sports and education programs for our youth, I am happy we can be part of a program that ties together character, sportsmanship, education and at the same time introduces strong, positive role models” says Hagan.

Educators from the community are encouraged to sign their students up to participate in any of the speaking event throughout the year, although space is limited. For more information and to book sessions for their youth, educators may visit http://www.hoophall.com/education/
