SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the five finalists for the 2015 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award presented by College of the Holy Cross. Named after Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor now in its twelfth year recognizes the top point guards in men’s division one college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel narrowed the original watch list of 35 candidates down to 17 and now the final five.

“The Cousy Award screening committee is tasked with the difficult job of selecting the top five point guards in the country from dozens of highly-skilled student athletes. However, the Cousy Award is about more than just athletic ability; it’s about leadership, perseverance and the many attributes that set Mr. Cousy apart,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “The five finalists selected have continually exhibited these traits and proven they are deserving of this prestigious award.”

“It was an exceptional challenge to narrow down the watch list of elite point guards to only five. When selecting our five finalists, we have to look at the complete picture including athleticism, leadership, and character, among other things,” said Ken Kaufman, Chair of the Bob Cousy Award and former president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). “The final five candidates are very deserving of this distinction and we wish them well as they head into the postseason.”
