Elite Programs from Across the Country to Take the Court at Springfield College

 

Springfield, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the field of teams and game schedule for the 2017 Spalding Hoophall Classic, an annual basketball showcase now in its sixteenth year at Springfield College. Games will be played at Blake Arena on the campus of Springfield College January 12-16, during Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend. The nation’s premier basketball event will once again showcase the top high school basketball teams from across the country. This year’s elite matchups include Westtown School (PA) vs. Hillcrest Prep (AZ), Montverde Academy (FL) vs. Bishop Montgomery (CA), and La Lumiere (IN) vs. Sierra Canyon (CA).

Other exciting matchups will feature DeMatha Catholic (MD) vs. Bishop Gorman (NV), The Patrick School (NJ) vs. Pace Academy (GA), and Oak Hill Academy (VA) vs. Nathan Hale (WA). Extensive coverage of the 2017 Spalding Hoophall Classic including game stories, stats, photos and player interviews will be provided by USA TODAY HSS and MassLive.com. GameChanger will serve as the official stats provider of the event with live updates available online. Additionally, several games from the 2017 Spalding Hoophall Classic will be nationally televised by ESPN and streamed live online by FloHoops. Broadcast information will be released at a later date.

Last year’s Spalding Hoophall Classic games were highlighted by Bam Adebayo (Kentucky), Frank Jackson (Duke), Malik Monk (Kentucky), Kobi Simmons (Arizona)and Jayson Tatum (Duke). Fans can expect to see more rising stars with this year’s contest featuring the Class of 2017’s top five players in ESPN’s Top 100 including: DeAndre Ayton (Hillcrest Prep, AZ), Michael Porter Jr. (Nathan Hale, WA), Wendell Carter (Pace Academy, GA), Mohamed Bamba (Westtown, NY) and Trevon Duval (IMG Academy). Other standouts include the top player in the Class of 2018, Marvin Bagley (Sierra Canyon, CA), Cameron Reddish (Westtown, NY) and the top two players in the Class of 2019, R.J. Barrett (Montverde, FL) and Charles Bassey (Saint Anthony, TX).  A total of 26 players out of the ESPN Top 100 in the Class of 2017 will participate.
