Inaugural Jerry Colangelo Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic Includes Auction of Unrivaled Array of Sports, Entertainment and Presidential Memorabilia

Live Auction to be hosted at the Wigwam Golf Resort on September 19th

PHOENIX, Ariz. and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame today announced details of its September 19th auction and other special events in association with the first annual Jerry Colangelo Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic.

More than 50 Hall of Famers are expected to participate in this year’s golf classic. Scheduled events for the two-day event include a VIP Welcome Reception, Pairings Dinner, a dedication to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team and a Championship Tournament across all three courses at the Wigwam Golf Resort.  Golfers will have a chance to win a new Mercedes-Benz on each of the courses with a hole-in-one through a partnership with the Phoenix Motor Company.

On Wednesday afternoon, September 19th, the Basketball Hall of Fame will conduct an auction for its guests of vintage sports-related, entertainment and Presidential memorabilia, hosted at the Wigwam.

“The items in this auction are very extraordinary and rare. We are extremely excited about sharing these items with our guests,” said John L. Doleva, President & CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “This will undoubtedly be one of the finest and most exciting auctions we have been associated with here at the Hall.”

A few of the marquee basketball items in the auction include signed and unique memorabilia from the 2012 Gold Medal winning basketball Teams, a Hall of Fame experience at NBA All-Star Weekend (including hotel, tickets to all events and games), a Hall of Fame experience at the NCAA Final Four (including hotel, tickets to all games seats in private HOF Suite), and full Enshrinement 2013 hospitality package as the Basketball Hall of Fame honors next’s year’s class in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Two other top items to be auctioned are closely linked to the Basketball Hall of Fame including an item from one of the great teammate tandem of all-time in Hall of Fame inductees Michael Jordan (Class of 2009) and Scottie Pippen (Class of 2010). This autographed framed photo of the two NBA all-stars is double-matted with a Chicago Bulls championship collage and a custom engraved plate.

The second key Basketball Hall of Fame item is a signed autographed basketball from 1979 Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain. It is signed Wilt “the stilt” Chamberlain, very rare as Wilt scarcely signed “the stilt.”  It also comes with a golden deluxe display.

Off the court, a Presidential Extravaganza will also be up for auction. For the first time in history, five living Presidents were pictured together including Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H. Bush along with autograph cuts, a Presidential seal, frame and double matte with custom engraved plates.

Another Presidential item is a rare photo of the first family of Camelot, The Kennedys. The photo includes President John F. Kennedy, Jackie, Caroline, and John Jr. along with autographs of JFK and Jackie with a custom engraved plate, custom frame and double matte.

The Wigwam, host site for the event, is a historic Arizona landmark in Glendale’s Litchfield Park that exemplifies resort life.  With luxurious accommodations, exceptional cuisine, extensive spa and recreational facilities, plus three 18-hole championship golf courses, the Wigwam will serve as hosts for this unmatched experience of a lifetime.
