Basketball Hall of Fame to Participate in Green Travel Initiative

MassDOT & NuRide partnership rewards commuters for environment-friendly travel

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – May 3, 2011 - The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame today announced a partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and NuRide, in a new green travel initiative. This program will reward individuals with a discounted admission offer to the Hall of Fame when they take greener trips such as carpooling, biking, walking, or other means of alternative and eco-efficient travel, in place of driving alone.

“The Basketball Hall of Fame is proud to partner with NuRide and MassDOT, in an effort to help improve the environmental sustainability of our community and region, “ said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. “We are excited to add this partnership to the already outstanding green projects currently being endorsed in the City of Springfield and surrounding communities.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the Basketball Hall of Fame to reward commuters for taking a greener trip,” said NuRide CEO Rick Steele, “which reduces traffic, cleans the air, and puts more money in each person’s pocket which is good for businesses and the economic vitality of every community we serve.“

To participate in the program, individuals can sign up for free on the NuRide web site at www.nuride.com and earn points for taking greener trips such as walking, biking, telecommuting, carpooling, vanpooling, or taking public transportation. Points can then be redeemed for special rewards from great local companies participating in the program, like the Buy One-Get One admission offer extended by the Basketball Hall of Fame.
