Deans & Puhala elected to Governors; Fogel joins Trustees

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame today announced new board members elected to the Board of Governors, as well as Board of Trustees. Newly elected members serving on the Board of Governors are Sherrie Deans, Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association Foundation, and Jim Puhala, MassMutual’s Head of Field and Regulatory Compliance. The Board of Trustees welcomes a new member as well, David Fogel, Executive Director of the National Basketball Coaches Association.

“Our newly elected board members share our passion for the game and our commitment to celebrating it far and wide,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “They have each made significant contributions to the basketball community and we look forward having them join us in our mission to promote and preserve the game at all levels.”

The Board of Governors serves as the group responsible for overseeing the management of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Additionally, the Governors assess means to raise revenue and awareness. The Governors ultimately serve as ambassadors of the Hall promoting its core mission, which is to celebrate the greatest moments and people in basketball.

Similarly, the Board of Trustees serve as ambassadors of the Hall, while also being responsible for preserving the fundamental mission and financial well-being of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Both boards are made up of individuals that work in or have worked in the game, as well as business leaders that have supported the game in Springfield, Mass. or on the national or global level.

Located in Springfield, Massachusetts, the city where basketball was invented, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame promotes and preserves the game of basketball at every level – professional, collegiate and high school, for both men and women on the global stage. Since opening its doors in 1959, the Hall has operated as a non-profit organization relying on the generosity of others to preserve the legacy of the game.
