Jim Boeheim

Enshrined 2005
Lyons, NY
Born: November 17, 1944

Few coaches in the history of college basketball have enjoyed the type of school association Jim Boeheim has with Syracuse University. Boeheim enrolled at Syracuse in the fall of 1962 and has been involved with his alma mater since. Boeheim, who walked on as a freshman, eventually served as a co-captain with fellow Hall of Famer Dave Bing and helped the Orange to the program's second NCAA tournament berth. In 1976, Boeheim was appointed head coach after serving as an assistant. At the time of his enshrinement, Boeheim had guided Syracuse to its first NCAA championship (2003), three Final Four appearances (1987, 1996, 2003), and more than 700 wins. The winningest coach in Big East history, Boeheim has also been active with USA Basketball and has served as part of seven different coaching staffs that have combined to accumulate seven medals including three gold medals in international competition. Boeheim has been a champion of many charitable causes and has served in a significant leadership role with Coaches vs. Cancer.
