Harry J. Gallatin

Enshrined 1991
Roxana, IL
April 26, 1927 - October 7, 2015

As the game of basketball made its transition from "old time" to the modern game, Harry Galatin's 6-foot-6 size and desire to compete was excellent groundwork for a successful career. But Gallatin had more than size and passion; he had tremendous physical strength, and was the epitome of hard work both in college and in the NBA. "Horse," as his teammates called him, played not for rewards or records, but rather for the love of the game. His durability and constant concentration led him to set an NBA consecutive games played record of 682 . He played nine of his ten seasons with the New York Knicks, was an All-NBA First-Team selection in 1954, and a seven-time All-Star Game selection. Known mostly for his strong rebounding, Gallatin ranked among the top ten in rebounding on six different occasions and led the league in 1954.
