Biography

Known as "the father of Hungarian basketball," basketball administrator Dr. Ferenc Hepp was an international leader. After graduating from Springfield College in 1935, Hepp became the first director of the National School of Physical Education and Sports in Hungary, along with the Hungarian Research Institute. Hepp then became the president of the Hungarian Basketball Federation in 1954 and was a member of FIBA's Technical Committee from 1948 to 1956. He was a member of the FIBA Central Board beginning in 1956, along with the Commissions of Finances and Amateurism beginning 1960. Hepp published more than 150 professional and scientific articles, including the Olympic Sports Dictionary translated into four languages. A major international figure, Hepp was present at every significant sporting occasion, including the European Championships, the World Congress Meetings of Commissions, and of course, the Olympic Games.
