Daniel P. "Dan" Issel

Enshrined 1993
Batavia, IL
Born: October 25, 1948

One of the hardest working players in basketball history, Dan Issel played in 1,218 of 1,242 possible games. Nicknamed "The Horse," Issel was the model of durability and consistency and his success was based on an old-fashioned, blue-collar, work ethic. He had a rugged offensive inside game that featured strong and decisive moves in the paint and a reliable jump shot from fifteen feet. A star at the University of Kentucky under Hall of Fame coach Adolph Rupp, Issel set 23 school records, including most points and rebounds. He enjoyed a fifteen-year ABA/NBA career with the Kentucky Colonels and the Denver Nuggets and concluded his Denver career as the franchise leader in points and second in rebounding.
