Biography

A teacher, competitor, and strategist, Marv Harshman coached teams that were dignified, honest, and full of class during a distinguished 40-year career. From 1945 to 1985, Harshman coached at Pacific Lutheran, Washington State University, and the University of Washington, and amassed over 600 wins. Four of his Washington teams won 20 or more games, with eleven of fourteen squads winning at least sixteen games. Harshman, who served as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1975 to 1981, led the U.S. to a gold medal in the 1975 Pan American Games and was subsequently named Seattle's Man-of-the-Year in sports. Highly respected by his colleagues, Harshman was NABC president in 1981.
