Educational Mission:
The Educational Department's mission at the Basketball Hall of Fame is to capture the attention and imagination of youth via their love and interest in basketball while providing learning tools and inspirational messages that teach in a fun and active learning environment.
At the Basketball Hall of Fame, we:
- Enhance students' understanding of good character by promoting proven traits that will help them make good ethical decisions and lead them on the path to success
- Inspire youth with stories of basketball personalities who represent the traits of character that responsible and successful citizens would emulate
- Educate youth to understand the relationship between self-discipline, athletic achievement, good moral character, and how they impact academic achievement
- Apply useful life-skills education across a variety of subject
Fastbreak Curriculum
The Fastbreak Curriculum is a handbook for teachers of all grades, K – 12. It-provides learning opportunities for students in core subject areas, including Science, Math, Social Studies, Language Arts, Physical Education and Art. Basketball serves as a focal point for a variety of activities to help students better observe, interpret, evaluate and developing reflective and critical thinking.
The Fastbreak Curriculum is available to teachers who are in the process of planning their field trip to the Basketball Hall of Fame. For more information or to schedule a presentation of the Fastbreak program, please contact (413)231-5513.
*Museum Scavenger Hunts are also available for school, scout groups and corporate groups.
MVP'S of Character Speaker Series
The goal of this program is to offer teachers and students an opportunity to explore the relationship between healthy character development, mature decision-making and academic achievement.
Basketball stars and well-known figures from the community are invited to speak with school groups about their experiences as they relate to the "Most Valuable Pillars" of Character, such as Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, Integrity, Cooperation and Trustworthiness.

Chris Dailey is the Associate Head Coach of the six time National Champion University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team. Coach Dailey has been an integral part of the Huskies success with Hall of Famer, Geno Auriemma for 25 seasons. REBECCA LOBO

Rebecca Lobo still does it all, she works for ESPN as a commentator, has co-authored a book with her mother about breast cancer, is being inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in June and is raising two daughters with her husband, Steve.
Rebecca was born in Massachusetts and played college basketball at the University of Connecticut under Hall of Fame Coach, Geno Auriemma as she led the team to the 1995 National Championship and their first undefeated season. Rebecca was involved in the successful launch of the WNBA playing for the New York Liberty and is also a gold medalist as a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team.
MIKE "STINGER" GLENN

Ten year NBA veteran, Mike ‘Stinger’ Glenn is an engaging speaker who focuses on developing character and achieving success through accepting the challenges of literacy, tolerance, education and history. He advocates using a competitive spirit to achieve success in the classroom as well as in athletic arenas and shares the values he learned from his parents, who were both teachers.
While graduating in the top five in his class, Glenn was rated the number 1 basketball player in the state of Georgia. Glenn achieved perfect attendance through twelve years of public school. Before grad school, Glenn received a BA in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science in four years from Southern Illinois University.
Since his days as a professional player in the NBA, Glenn has worked a TV analyst for numerous broadcasts including ESPN, CNN and TNT. Mike is a collector of rare artifacts about and by African-Americans and has researched and written three books an numerous biographies on inspirational individuals, while sharing his contemporary perspective. He has also runs the Mike Glenn All-Star Basketball Camp for the Hearing-Impaired, which is celebrates its 31st anniversary this June.
WAYNE SOARES

Wayne Soares is a successful motivational speaker, television host, stand up comedian and former ESPN Radio sports commentator. He is the author of two books, The Power Of Your Words And Actions, and Are You A Good Sport? Each year Wayne engages children with his larger than life personality and gets them to focus on treating and respecting one another.
DEREK KELLOGG

Springfield native, Cathedral High School graduate and University of Massachusetts Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Derek Kellogg, will complete this school year’s MVP’s of Character program. Derek participated in the speaking program for the first time last June to close out the school year in one of the most positive and well received presentations ever.
Coach Kellogg is a graduate of the UMASS and was the team’s point guard during a stretch when the team won four straight Atlantic 10 Championships. Derek was a four time letter winner for the Minutemen and captain of the team his junior and senior years.
Upon graduating from UMASS, Derek played professional basketball in the United States Basketball League, then worked as an assistant coach for UMASS, George Mason University and Youngstown State. For the 2000-2001 season, Kellogg reunited with his former UMASS Head Coach, John Calipari, at the University of Memphis as an assistant coach and played an integral part in the Tigers unprecedented success for the next eight seasons followed by accepting the head coaching position at UMASS marking the University’s 100th season of basketball.
Library Pass Program
The Library Pass Program is available to all local and regional libraries.
This program allows libraries to purchase two yearly discount passes that they in turn can have available for patrons to sign out and utilize at the Hall of Fame to receive a discount on admission.
The discount admission with the pass is $12 for an adult admission (regularly $16.99) and $8 (regularly $11.99) for youth ages 5-15. Under 5 years at the Hall of Fame is FREE. Each pass is valid for a party of 6 (three adults and three youth). The cost to the library for the two special discount passes is $75.

Sports Management Program
During the school year, high school and college students have the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals from the Hall of Fame or area colleges. The Hall of Fame can provide discussion on such fields as Development, Marketing, Sales, Museum Curatorship, Media or Hospitality. Pre-registration required.
